Sunday Markets

Operating for over 30 years, the Sunday Markets at Old Petrie Town are unlike any other farmer’s market in north Brisbane. Joining the historic buildings that line the streets, a range of market stalls pop up every Sunday from 7:00 am to provide a unique shopping experience. The smell of freshly baked bread from the only commercially operated wood fired Bake House in Queensland wafts through the air, or take your pick from over a dozen food vendors in Mumford’s Barn, grab a beer at the Heritage Hotel, or a burger and shake from the Emporium Milk Bar.

Museums

The Queensland Steam and Vintage Machinery Society has workshop facilities, storage areas and exhibition space. With close to 100 members, there is work being done constantly to restore one thing or another making the society a very active group. Check them out every Wednesday, Friday & Saturday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm or Sunday 8:00 am – 2:00 pm.

In 1982, appalled by the dumping and destruction of old and outdated equipment, a group of on duty firefighters held several meetings. These meetings led to the creation of the Fire Brigade’s Historical Society, who were eventually allotted a piece of land in Old Petrie Town where there is now a static display of some 14 vehicles, over 300 helmets and uniforms, artefacts and photographs. Open Sunday’s 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Set amongst the graceful landscape of Old Petrie Town, Pine Rivers Heritage Museum explores the district's historic character. Learn about early timber-getters and industries, experience an 1890s school classroom and glimpse life before electricity in an original farm workers cottage.
