A scenic picnic location, Bullocky Rest overlooks the picturesque surrounds of the Moreton Bay Region’s Lake Samsonvale, and is open from 6am daily. With a playground, numerous picnic shelters, BBQ’s and toilets, this is a much-loved destination for those wanting to have a relaxing outdoor Sunday afternoon.
Not only does Bullocky’s Rest have ample parking, but there is no shortage of picnic tables, shelters and BBQ’s. The recreational area has been well catered for and picnickers and those hosting park parties are never short on space. On a Sunday you can expect to smell a wide range of culinary delights being barbequed, from the good old Aussie snag to shish kababs.
Fishing is permitted at Bullocky Rest, with Lake Samsonvale being stocked with a number of native fish since 1991 including; Australian Bass, Yellow Belly, Mary River Cod, Snub Nose Gar and Saratoga. However, you do require a fishing permit and these can be obtained from the Pine Rivers Fish Management Association. Take note that the gates to Bullocky Rest are open at 6am and shut at 6pm. Apply for a fishing permit here.
Sadly, swimming is not permitted at Bullocky Rest and those looking to use paddle craft on Lake Samsonvale can only be launched from Forgan Cove. There is a lot for kids to see and do at Bullocky Rest, with a playground ideal for older toddlers and primary aged children. With bark chip softfall, the playground has a slide, fireman’s pole and a small flying fox. It is shaded by the surrounding trees, so a lovely spot to play even in the middle of the day.
Aside from the playground structure, Bullocky Rest offers lots of opportunities to engage children in outdoor nature play, from watching the local bird wildlife, to turtle and koala spotting. There’s also plenty of sticks, rocks, leaves and wildflowers to collect and investigate. If you don’t mind a little ‘muddy fun’, it’s also a great place to cook up a few mud pies!
With its wide grassy banks, Bullocky’s Rest is also great for a social fun game of; soccer, cricket, Frisbee or touch footy.
Overlooking the water, there’s nothing more romantic then a civil ceremony at Bullocky Rest. Before you send out those invitations though, you do need to apply for an Event Permit via SEQwater. Make sure you allow plenty of time for processing of your Event application as it can take up to 4 weeks. Find out more and Apply here
