The Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum Society was formed in 1971, when a group of railway enthusiasts met to discuss preserving a collection of locomotives and rolling stock used on the Queensland sugar mill tramways. And that's exactly what they have done. The museum proudly showcases an irreplaceable collection of two-foot gauge steam, diesel and petrol locomotives and rolling stock, including a variety of line cars. It is a wide-ranging collection of the equipment which played a vital role in the development of Queensland, the state that we live in today.

Take a ride on a train

The Museum also established an operating heritage railway that offers train rides to experience a piece of history. On the first and third Sundays of each month, you can take a ride on a historical train. This unique experience runs along the Woodford Railway, or locals know it as “Durundur Railway”. Enjoy taking in the sights of Woodford as you travel along the historical railway with a stop at the Woodford Gardens Cafe. Note: Passengers that wish to depart at the cafe are advised to make a booking ahead of time if they'd like to stop for a bite to eat.

Enjoy a relaxing picnic

The Woodford Railway also provides outdoor tables and BBQ facilities. Treat the family to an old-fashioned picnic or a sausage sizzle after your exciting train ride.

The shop stocks railway themed books and DVD’s as well as some cold drinks to quench your thirst. Fun fact: these buildings are genuine railway buildings from nearby townships
