Moreton Bay Hinterland Visitor Information Centre (Woodford)

If you’re looking for things to do in Woodford QLD, then pop into the Woodford Visitor Information Centre located beside the water tower on the D’Aguilar Highway in Woodford.
Staffed by just under 20 friendly and helpful volunteers, this Centre sees around 15,000 visitors drop in on an annual basis to collect information and maps detailing the town and surrounding areas.
The tourist information hub offers FREE Wi-Fi and bus tour groups can book free guided tours of Woodford through the Centre.
The Centre opened in 2010 and was initially located inside a caravan during its trial run before its relocation to the quaint cottage on the same site in 2012. The cottage which now houses the Centre was purpose built and gently manoeuvred into place in 2 parts.
In 2022, the Campervan and Motorhome Club Australia nationally recognised Woodford with RV Friendly Town status, the first of its kind in South East Queensland.
4 of Woodford’s attractions are located near the Centre – the water tower which is part of the Windows of Woodford Art Trail, a de-commissioned Leopard Tank AS1, the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, and Woodford Historical Society & Community Museum
You can’t miss Woodford’s water tower complete with colourful window-like murals, this tall structure resides conveniently beside the visitor information centre at the intersection of Archer St and Margaret Street.
Stop for a looksee and a photo before checking out the rest of the Windows of Woodford Art Trail.
12 panels with aspects of the water tower artwork can be discovered on the town’s lamp poles and 3 public toilet block windows also feature artwork. 10 beautified bollards are placed throughout the town adorned with water tower artwork replications, along with a stanza from the poem ‘Bandicoot Dreaming’ by Mark Feldman, and mosaic tiles crafted by artist Beverley Ridsdill-Kenny and community members.
Stroll over to Sale Yards Park, home to the monument site of Woodford Memorial Park, nearby the water tower. A photo op can be taken advantage of here by the decommissioned Leopard Tank.
Leopard Tanks entered service with the Australian Defence Force in 1977 and for over 30 years played a central role in meeting the nation’s defence needs. 30 of these tanks have been decommissioned and offered to RSLs across the country with 1 allocated to Woodford and another to Bribie Island branches.
At 7 metres long and weighing 42 tonne, the tank is an impressive display of scale and power symbolising the Leopard Tank’s important contribution to Australia’s military history.
The Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum Society has an irreplaceable collection of two-foot gauge steam, diesel and petrol locomotives and rolling stock. On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. For fun family things to do in Woodford QLD, visit the Society on the 1st, or 3rd Sunday of the month to take a train ride on the Durundur Railway from its Margaret Street location to Storey Brook and back.
The Woodford Community Museum is situated within a community hub which not only exhibits the history of Woodford’s early settlers and explorers, but also artwork by local artists, with exhibitions changing every 2 months. If you’re visiting on a Saturday, you could take part in one of the regular drawing or painting workshops, or visit mid-week to unleash your creativity at the Wednesday morning Social Creativity Day.
