Moreton Bay Bugs and Seafood

Moreton Bay is the home of fresh seafood and the Moreton Bay Bugs.

Found on menus all over the world, the internationally famous Moreton Bay Bugs are caught right here in Moreton Bay. Head to Bribie Island or Scarborough to feast on the freshest seafood straight off the trawlers or available from outlets throughout the region.

The Moreton Bay Region is synonymous with fresh produce and has attracted some of the country’s finest chefs who transform the freshest locally sourced produce into mouth-watering culinary delights.

Home to a wide range of fantastic places to wine and dine, you will be spoilt for choice with your surroundings from beautiful restaurants in rainforest settings, quaint cafes, historic country pubs, value for money dining experiences and casual beachfront dining.

Sample fresh Moreton Bay specialities and stock up the picnic basket on your leisurely drive through the region as you pass roadside stalls selling freshly harvested produce from nearby farms and at weekly farmers’ markets.

Boasting some of the best coffee shops in the country as well as a selection of boutique craft breweries and wineries, pull up a chair and enjoy the local specialities, participate in a guided tour or take a taste of Moreton Bay home with you.


The Moreton Bay Region has an intimate relationship with the strawberry industry with more than 80% of Queensland’s strawberries grown right here in our backyard. There are a number of strawberry farms located in region’s north where you can pick your very own fresh and juicy strawberry during the season (June – October). It’s a fun and delicious activity the whole family will love.

Foodie events

The region dishes up some truly awesome foodie events throughout the year. Plan your trip to coincide with one of the food-inspired festivals including the annual Strawberry Festival, What’s Cooking in the Gardens or Oyster Festival. Check out What's On page for more events.

Strawberry Festival 

Celebrate strawberries – the lusciously sweet aggregate fruit beloved the world over at the Strawberry Festival Sandstone Point Hotel’s Saturday, 19th August 2017 from 11am.

With over 40% of Queensland strawberries coming from our local Moreton Bay Region, our slice of South East Queensland paradise has the perfect excuse to revel in all things Fragaria vesca so bring the family, kick-back and join in the sweet festivities at Sandstone Point Hotel.

The day will be jam-packed with strawberry themed fun, family entertainment, live music and much more, there’ll even be a Strawberry Patch Bar whipping-up strawberry-based drinks

What's Cooking in the Gardens

What's Cooking in the Gardens? is a celebration of food, lifestyle and sustainability. Festival-goers will enjoy vibrant displays and demonstrations as this normally secluded haven transforms into a world of 'green' fun.

Gardening and cooking gurus galore will be on hand to share their collective years of wisdom on all things eco-botanical.

Oyster Festival 

Celebrate oysters, seafood and wine at the Sandstone Point Hotel Oyster Festival by Pumicestone Passage on Saturday, 18th November.  Sandstone Point Hotel’s lawn will be awash in oyster, seafood and wine stalls as far as the eye can sea, showcasing Australian-wide produce and a variety of seafood themed food stalls. 

The sprawling bayside venue will serve up FREE family friendly fun and entertainment with plenty to do and see for all ages, along with trawler fresh seafood, inspired oyster dishes, boutique wines and delicious drinks to delight the palate.

Ocean View Estates

Ocean View Estates is a multi-award winning tourist destination, wedding ceremony venue, restaurant and a member of the Queensland Tourism Awards Hall of Fame. Learn about the aspects of wine making and brewing on a guided tours, enjoy the delicious food, beer and wine pairing experience in the restaurant.
