Our Bribie Island Family Holiday

We love adventure. We love Queensland. And we love taking our kids on adventures that they love ... in Queensland!

When we heard that a brand new BIG4 Holiday Resort had opened its doors we were very interested. When we heard that it was near Bribie Island, we were even more interested. And when we saw photos of the waterpark, swimming pool, gorgeous open caravan sites and how close it was to the iconic Sandstone Point Hotel, we were sold!

For the Kids

Sandstone Point Holiday Resort is yet another amazing BIG4 that has opened its doors offering up a stunning park filled to overflowing with all you could possibly want to keep the kids entertained all day and into the night.

When we asked our kids to tell us the best part of the trip (we do this on the way home from every adventure) they really struggled. There was quite a bit of thinking before comments like ‘The water park was so cool’ and ‘the games rooms are epic’ and ‘I really loved the big white roads to ride your bikes and scooters on’. These comments were followed up by (and this was said in unison) “When can we go back?” Of course, the comment ‘birthday cake!’ was in there somewhere as well (we had gone up for my 40^th and our friends’ little boys’ birthday, so there were 2 cakes!)

The best part for us is that it’s not much more than an hour away. This means on the Sunday afternoon return drive; we are ahead of most of the crazy Bruce Highway traffic. Those of you who live in Brisbane or further south and love to head up to the Sunny Coast on the weekend will know exactly what I’m talking about.

The Fun

Sandstone Point Holiday Resort is a one of a kind holiday destination filled with activities for everyone, not only the kids, including tennis, swimming, gaming, chess, a gym and plenty more.

We hardly saw our kids other than when we joined them in the waterpark and, of course, when they were hungry. There is a wonderful café/restaurant if you don’t feel like cooking … and they serve cocktails that you can sip on while lounging by the pool!

Bribie Exploration

If you decide to head out and explore Bribie, there is a world filled with things to see and do just minutes from the resort. Beaches, cafes, parks, bird watching and plenty of 4WDing opportunities.

We have hit the sand in our 4WD and spent the day on the beach more than once and love it every time. Bribie was one of the first places we took Sprocket, our Staffy when he was just a tiny pup!

To get to this very special Moreton Bay Island you cross the 831-metre Bribie Island Bridge which gives you panoramic views of golden beaches just waiting to be explored. And as you turn off the bridge it’s great to see so many active, healthy people out riding bikes, walking their dogs or doing their morning exercise. Having said that there is always a long line-up for fish and chips and ice cream!

Although there is so much to see and do on Bribie you don’t have to be a camper to enjoy it.

Our Recommendation

Day trips are awesome as it’s close to home for many people, and if you do choose to stay, there are holiday homes and even luxury hotels for those who can’t picture themselves ‘camping’!
